I think I had to dive, and he pulled it. I got somebody open,\u201d Bosa told reporters regarding his missed shot at Mahomes, who threw a game-winning touchdown in a 25-22 overtime win over the 49ers.<\/p>\n<p>While San Francisco sacked Mahomes three times in the game, Bosa couldn\u2019t get home when the team needed it most. Mahomes instead floated a wide-open pass to wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. near the end zone to win the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was speechless. I couldn\u2019t really look anybody in the eye, especially all my teammates,\u201d Bosa said about the defeat. \u201cI could have done more. Everybody could have done more. And there\u2019s really not much to say at this point. The 49ers held the Chiefs to three first half points, but San Francisco\u2019s defense couldn\u2019t make the stops needed after halftime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat first half was a very good defensive performance, but there were missed opportunities in the first half too. [And] we definitely wanted to lap them a couple more times to give us a cushion because you know who we\u2019re playing and they\u2019re going to play to the end,\u201d Bosa said.<\/p>\n<h2>Niners Started Hot on Defense Before Dre Greenlaw Went Down<\/h2>\n<p>Bosa and company held the Chiefs in check on a three-and-out and another punt in the first two defensive series of the first half.\u00a0The Chiefs threatened to score on their third drive amid a deep shot by Mahomes, but running back\u00a0Isiah Pacheco\u00a0fumbled the ball.<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco forced another punt, but things shifted when the Niners lost linebacker\u00a0Dre Greenlaw\u00a0to an Achilles injury on that drive. Bosa acknowledged the difference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was hard. Sometimes when things like that happen, it could sway the momentum just because it\u2019s such an emotional feeling,\u201d Bosa said. \u201cBut I do think we did a good job of continuing to play the way we were playing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was pushing through so much this year,\u201d Bosa continued regarding Greenlaw. \u201cAnd I think 99 percent of players wouldn\u2019t have been able to do what he did. And he put his body on the line for this and it sucks that we can\u2019t get him one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco gave a scoring drive for the first time after Greenlaw\u2019s exit when\u00a0\u00a0Mahomes moved the team methodically down field late in the first half. Niners defensive lineman\u00a0Arik Armstead\u00a0sack limited the Chiefs to a\u00a0Harrison Butker field goal that cut the lead to 10-3, but Kansas City gained momentum.<\/p>\n<h2>Niners Defense Missed Chances Key Second Half Moments<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"in\" dir=\"ltr\">Patrick Mahomes \ud83c\udfaf Ji&#39;Ayir Brown<br \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/v9eJ3oGCFy\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/v9eJ3oGCFy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PFF (@PFF) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PFF\/status\/1756857946154103048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 12, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A defense built to win a Super Bowl couldn\u2019t hold back the Chiefs in the second half despite another Pacheco fumble and a\u00a0Ji\u2019Ayir Brown\u00a0interception in the third quarter. Pacheco got the ball back, and the 49ers offense couldn\u2019t capitalize on the Alexander pick over Chiefs tight end\u00a0Travis Kelce.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City didn\u2019t turn things around quickly on offense either. It took multiple\u00a0Mahomes runs with less than six minutes left in the quarter to cross the 50-yard line, which set up Butker\u2019s new Super Bowl record 57-yard field goal, which trimmed the lead to 10-6.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Mahomes\u2019 lone touchdown pass in regulation to\u00a0wide receiver\u00a0Marquez Valdez-Scantling\u00a0came off of 49ers wide receiver\u00a0Ray-Ray McCloud III\u2018s failed fumble recovery on a punt return.
