After difficult season, Sabres’ Dylan Cozens stars for Team Canada – Buffalo Hockey Beat

Dylan Cozens scored nine goals for Team Canada.

Nine goals scored in 10 outings, two more than any player in the World Championship. A six-game goal streak. An overtime winner. A gaudy 30 percent shooting percentage.

While Sabres center Dylan Cozens fell short of earning a medal in the tournament – Team Canada finished fourth, losing Sunday’s bronze medal game 4-2 to Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and Team Sweden – he ended his season on a high note.

Cozens struggled with the Sabres in 2023-24, mustering just 18 goals and 42 points in 79 games, a drop of 13 goals and 21 points following a breakout campaign.

So the Yukon native’s three-week stint representing his country in Czechia should boost his confidence following an underwhelming season.

Other Sabres thrived at the World Championship. Here are their final numbers:

– Dahlin compiled two goals and nine points in 10 games, including an assist on Sweden’s first goal Sunday before Cozens tied the contest.

– Winger JJ Peterka scored five goals and nine points in eight games for Team Germany .

– Defenseman Bowen Byram registered one goal and five points in nine games for Canada. He earned a one-game suspension for slashing Team Finland’s Jesse Puljujarvi.

– Defenseman Owen Power compiled one goal and six points in 10 games for Canada.

– Winger Victor Olofsson scored one goal and four points in nine contests for Team Sweden.
